Ha Noi, the City for Peace
Hanoi, the capital and the second-largest city of Vietnam, is located on the right bank of the Red River in the Northern Delta. Having celebrated 1,000 years of the city establishment in 2010, Hanoi is considered as the cultural centre of the country which witnessed the ups and downs of most Vietnamese dynasties. Even though some relics have not survived through wars and time, the city still has more fascinating and well-preserved cultural and historic monuments than any city in Vietnam, including over 600 pagodas and temples, to amaze visitors and residents alike. Scenery-wise, Hanoi is famous for having so many lakes that sometimes it is called “the city of lakes”, which contributes to the unique feeling of peacefulness Hanoi always brings about. Furthermore, with its recognised exemplary actions for the culture, environment and education, Hanoi is the only city in Asia-Pacific that was granted the title “City for Peace” by UNESCO in 1999. Without doubt, you will leave with great impressions and memories of this one-thousand-year-old city.
